For some years now the Yorkshire Area Junior Section has been operating amended selection criteria for the junior squads. This has been based upon the juniors being required to play two (2) separate “trials”, one set up and organised by the junior section specifically for the juniors and a second one played at the same time of the remaining county bowlers in December or January.

At the Area Association meeting on Wed 9th November, the dates and venues for this year’s Trials and Area Championships were discussed at length. In addition to the dates and venues, the format of the two competitions was also discussed. It was agreed that as the adult and senior squads both played a qualifying event for the Inter County Championships that there was some merit in ensuring that we selected the best bowlers possible to represent the county at adult and senior level. Therefore the following changes to the qualifying format for the adult and senior squads will apply from this year on:-

To be eligible to represent the county at either adult or senior level, bowlers must play the County Trials as usual and in addition the scores they bowl in the Area Championships will also be taken into account. Selection will be based upon the normal published criteria and the aggregate total scores from both tournaments.

The committee felt that this should be a more balanced reflection of each bowler’s ability as the tournaments will be played in different centres.

>Area Trials - 14th/15th and 21st/22nd January 2012 possibly at Shipley Bowl (To be confirmed)

Area Championship’s - 6th/12th/13th May 2012 at Firth Park, Sheffield (overflow squad 5th May 2012)
